Step-by-Step Tutorial
Opening a Photo in Photoshop
Start by opening your photo in Photoshop. To enhance your editing, you can add adjustment layers. This step is optional, but it can help achieve better results. We need to select hair:
- Go to Select > Color Range. Adjust the fuzziness slider to fine-tune your selection.
- Use the Eyedropper Tool to pick the color of your hair. You can add to your selection by clicking on the Eyedropper Tool with the plus sign (+). Click on different areas of the hair to include all parts.
- To subtract from the selection, hold
Alt(Windows) orOption(Mac). To add to the selection, holdShift.
Applying Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer
Once your selection is more refined, add a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. Use the following settings:
- Hue: Adjusts the color tone.
- Saturation: Alters the intensity of the color.
- Lightness: Modifies the brightness or darkness of the color.
Refining the Selection with the Brush Tool
If you notice some parts of the hair are not selected, use the Brush Tool on the layer mask to perfect your selection. Adjust the flow and opacity of the brush to blend seamlessly. Change the blending mode of the Hue/Saturation layer from Normal to Color for more natural results.
Fine-Tuning the Hue/Saturation Settings
In the Properties panel, modify the Hue, Saturation, and Lightness settings to reach the desired hair color. You can also adjust the layer opacity for a more refined look. Continue tweaking the settings until you achieve the perfect outcome.
